In early 2018 we’re looking at the book of Acts. This book is the historical account of Jesus’ ongoing work in and through his apostles by his Spirit. It’s the record of the spread of the news that Jesus rose from the dead to prove all he had taught about himself and about the kingdom of God. It’s the story of the birth and growth of the church. It’s the prompt for the church today. What is church about? What is church for? What should the church be doing? How can the church grow?
It begins with Jesus’ instructions to his apostles:
“…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
In Chapters 1-7 all eyes are on Jerusalem and Judea. Chapters 8-12 take us out to Samaria. And Chapters 13-28 begin to show the word about Jesus spreading towards the ends of the earth.
